Description
HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil), paraffinic diesel obtained by hydrotreating renewable feedstock, handled under tax warehouse arrangements.
What the product is
HVO is not a biodiesel: hydrotreating yields paraffinic hydrocarbons, not methyl esters. The difference shows in behaviour, no ester bonds, therefore no hydrolysis in the presence of water, far higher oxidation stability and cold behaviour that can be tuned at the refinery. That is why HVO can be used even where FAME sets limits on prolonged storage.
Sustainability and traceability
Sustainability characteristics and greenhouse gas savings are attributes of the supply chain and of the supplier, evidenced by the certifications that travel with the product along the chain of custody: PSP passes them on and keeps them tracked, without claiming them as its own. The reference framework is the European one on renewable energy in transport, and the documentation follows the product at every step.
Supply

Applications
HVO behaves like a paraffinic diesel and is used where a renewable fuel is needed without changes to the installation: transport fleets, power generation, construction sites and plant machinery, as well as blending. Whether it is used neat or in a blend depends on the engine specification and on the applicable rules, and that is a check to be made before supply. Storage does not carry the constraints typical of esters, but good tank-cleanliness practice still applies.
